New NetXpert 1400 makes Gigabit compliance testing faster and easier
Taking cost and complexity out of field testing passive networks intended for later Gbit use
The NetXpert 1400 IEEE 802.3ab LAN Qualifier and Network Diagnostic Tool carries out three simple tests in a single session. This allows users to determine Gigabit suitability and cable quality, troubleshoot and build up a documentation database.
By testing Bit Error Rate (BER) and Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) levels as well as determining delay skew and cross-referencing the results, test accuracy is increased considerably. Professional test devices normally used for this are very costly, bulky and too easily damaged to be used for field work. NetXpert 1400, however, is small, portable, rugged, requires no special skills and is some five times cheaper than other devices. Ideal for smaller installations, such as SOHO networks, clinics, law firms and so on.
Multiple tests for cost-effective cable testing and Ethernet speed certification
NetXpert 1400 allows installers and operators to quickly and easily find out whether their network cabling systems qualifies for IEEE 802.3ab standard compliant Gigabit Ethernet, and enables troubleshooting of active networks. A ‘Pass/Fail’ result indicates whether existing cabling link supports data rates up to 1Gbit/s. Cable length and distance to the cable fault are determined using advanced TDR (Time Domain Reflectometer) and capacitance technology. Continuity test results of all 8 wires and the shielding are displayed in wire map format in full color. Cable faults such as opens, shorts, miswires, and split pairs are shown in an easily understand way.
“Testing must be an integral part of design and rollout processes,” explains Alfred Huber, Technical Manager Softing IT Networks. “Bandwidth demand is rising rapidly and the importance and scope of ethernet are expanding. As systems are increasingly converged, and Moves, Adds and Changes become more frequent, it is vital to ascertain whether individual cables and bundles are working in accordance with specs and make sure there are no bottlenecks along the line. If network testing is late, inaccurate or incomplete, subsequent errors will drive up the cost of the network. Installers are required to present ‘proof of performance’ documentation and perform pre-tests.
The NetXpert 1400 is a complete solution for cable qualification and troubleshooting of active networks, enabling rapid, simple verification and documentation of the capability of cabling links to support Gigabit Ethernet operation.
