What is a fiber optic qualifier?

A fiber optic qualifier (optical network performance tester) checks whether an installed fiber optic link reliably supports the data rates required for modern Ethernet applications.

How does a fiber optic qualifier work?

A fiber optic network qualifier tests the actual transmission performance of a fiber link under realistic network conditions.

  1. Automatic link diagnosis – detects cable type, verifies polarity, checks cable length, and identifies basic connection issues.
  2. Bit error rate test (BERT) – sends real Ethernet data packets at the selected speed (1–10 Gbit/s) and verifies error-free transmission.
