What is a splicing device?
A splicing device is used to permanently connect fiber optic cables with low loss.
The fiber ends are precisely aligned and fused together using an electric arc or a mechanical process.
The result is a stable, durable connection with minimal attenuation – crucial for the quality and reliability of modern fiber optic networks.

How does a splicer work?
The splicing process consists of a few standardised steps that are particularly easy to perform with the FiberFox MINI devices:
- Preparation of the fiber – stripping, cleaning and breaking the fiber ends with a fiber cleaver.
- Aligning the fiber ends – the splicing device automatically positions the fibers with high precision.
- Splicing – the fiber ends are fused together by an electric arc (arc fusion) to form a continuous glass connection.
- Protecting the splice point
Option a) A heat-shrinkable sleeve is pushed over the connection and fixed in the device's integrated oven.
Option b) A crimp splice protector encloses the splice point and mechanically compresses it with a splice protector press.
Quality check – the device displays the measured attenuation of the splice and saves the results if required.
