Become a Certified Fiber Optic Technician in Only Five Days at the GoFar Training Center

A globally accredited Fiber Optic Association (FOA) training center (#345), the GoFar school is where Lee Renfroe trains certified fiber optic technicians (CFOT®), equipping them with the knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA) to work in the fiber optics field. The primary certification for all fiber optic technicians, the FOA CFOT is invaluable as many companies require FOA CFOT certification in order to work with fiber optics.

Technicians with this certification have proven their extensive basic knowledge of fiber optics and demonstrated KSAs in fiber optic industry processes. The KSAs gained are applicable to almost any fiber optics job, such as design, installation or operation. These skills are also useful for any application that uses fiber optic communications.

You can find a summary of the KSAs required for certification here. You can also find the complete list of training locations here.

The five-day course is divided into in-class time (25%) and hands-on training (75%). Course completion and a score of 70% or greater on the FOA CFOT exam will earn you certification. The total cost of the course is $1,500, which includes five days of instruction, a textbook, lunch and test fees.

The course will provide you with an overview of fiber optic theory, history, applications and installations. You’ll also learn about communications systems that use fiber optics and the fiber optic components that are appropriate for fiber optic networks. Other topics include on-premises installations, outside-plant fiber optic cables, pre-polished and spliced connectors, fusion splicing, mounting enclosures, component testing and cable plants. You’ll even be able to participate in hands-on lab exercises to train splicing, termination and testing skills.
